Guy Talk

BrandonWhat would you want to know about a girl before dating her?
I definitely would want to know about her faith and what she does to live it out. I’d want to know what kinds of things she likes, because if she’s really into something I’m not, that might be a problem. Or if she’s really into something I am into, that’d be pretty awesome!

— Brandon Jernigan, 21, from San Luis Obispo, Calif.

DanielIs it possible to just be friends with a girl and not have any romantic feelings?
I think it’s definitely possible to be friends with a girl and not be romantically inclined, because if you didn’t, you’d be limiting yourself tremendously in your social life. You wouldn’t get to know half the people out there!

When you’re thinking about dating a girl, do you also think about marriage?
Definitely. I think if I’d be entering a dating relationship at my age, then I’d have marriage in mind.

— Daniel Peterson, 21, from Tulsa, Okla.

JohnAre there ways you’d let a girl know that a date is really a date and not just hanging out as friends?
If I were going out with a girl just as friends, I’d probably say right at first, “Hey, we’re just going as friends.” If I wanted to go on a date with a girl, I’d let her know when I asked her out that I intended it to be a date.

— John Wells III, 19, from Murrieta, Calif.

AndrewDo you prefer to be friends before entering a dating relationship?
Most definitely. I think that friendship is the basis for everything. When I get married, my wife is going to be my best friend. If you’re not friends first, then you’re really going into it blindly.

— Andrew Haynes, 21, from Fresno, Calif.

bowlingWhy are guys so competitive?
Guys want to be the best; they want show their stuff to fit in. And if they’re the best, then other guys are gonna look up to them.

What would you want to know about a girl before dating her?
I want to know everything about her before I even consider that. I want to know what she dreams of doing, and what she plans on doing in her future.

— Jamie Everett, 18, from Colorado Springs, Colo.

DannyWhy do guys try so hard to impress a girl?
I think it’s because they like her, so they want her to like them back. They don’t want to make a fool of themselves.

Is it important for you to make the first move in a relationship?
I believe in chivalry, so I might feel like I wasn’t as much of a man if she asked me out. I would feel like I wasn’t doing my job.

— Danny Everett, 18, from Colorado Springs, Colo.
