Sweet Sounds

bowlingOoey Gooey Grey Holi-bar
From the kitchen of Grey Holiday’s bassist, R.T. Bodet

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Bottom Crust:
one yellow cake mix (preferably butter recipe – if possible)

two eggs

one stick of softened butter (salted)

Mix this all together and pour into a greased 13x9 glass or aluminum, nonstick pan. Press into bottom of pan evenly.

Topping:
two eggs

8-ounce package of cream cheese

one standard box of powdered sugar

Mix together and pour over the cake crust that is already in the bottom of the pan. Bake until golden brown, which should be about 20 minutes. Remove and let cool. Hint: the longer it cools, the better off you’ll be. “It’s like a fine lasagna—it gets better with age,” R.T. says.

TBoneMr. Goodbar
T-Bone uses his time on the subway to write music. “When I look out the window and see homeless people, broken down cars, abandoned buildings and graffiti on the walls, it helps me think about life and gets my creative juices flowing.”

T-Bone also visits his old neighborhood before he records every new album. “It reminds me of my past—what God has brought me from.”

To fight writer’s block, T-Bone remembers how important it is to write songs that make a difference. “There’s no way I can rest knowing that people are hurting while I have the answer to all their problems: Jesus!”

If T-Bone had an endless supply of money, he would help stop gang violence by starting an after-school program to give kids an alternative to being on the streets. “The staff I would hire would be a loving staff, because that’s all kids are really looking for: someone to accept them for who they are.”

Jared Anderson Keith Green, The Prayer Chain and Bob Dylan

He doesn’t just write and play worship songs—
Glenn’s also an author. (Check out Butterflies in Brazil. Item code: P00752B)

Jared’s also a father. (A good day off for Jared is taking his kids for a run in the park, eating Popsicles, building Lego towers and then eating dinner all together.)

Jon’s also his wife’s handyman. (“Working on my house helps me love my wife better. It reminds me that God has asked me to lead my house by putting Him first and then my family.”)

"I fell off a stage once when I was like 15 years old. That was pretty embarrassing!"

"If I had all the money and time I needed, I'd love to build a center for homeless people to get them back on track. My heart goes out to the homeless or those who are 'less fortunate.' "

"If we had all the money and time we needed, I think we'd do exactly what we're doing now. We'd just be able to do it on a larger level and get the music out to a larger audience."

Trevor McNevan, Thousand Foot Krutch

Good and Plenty
"I'm inspired by a lot of things I see, hear and feel that move me everywhere I go. We're traveling a lot, so I'm usually writing on airplanes or buses, or in hotel rooms. I used to go to the top of this hill in the city I grew up in that overlooked downtown. It was a great place to sit on the hood of the car and write."

Trevor McNevan, Thousand Foot Krutch

You’ve Got to be Kidding Me!
Trevor McNevan co-wrote many of the songs on Hawk Nelson's albums Letter to the President and Smile, It's the End of the World. He also helped to produce the album and is often credited with helping to discover the group.

Both Thousand Foot Krutch and Hawk Nelson originated in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.

Worship leader Vicky Beeching was born in Canterbury, England, and attended Oxford University to study theology. Here’s why she thinks a college education is important:

“Our generation is very media-oriented. Young people don't pick up and read thick theology books much anymore. They'd rather download a new song onto their iPod, so that makes songwriters the main communicators to our generation.

“Christian songwriters are the theologians of today's church, as kids leave church singing lyrics all week, long after they've forgotten what the preacher said in his message. As a worship leader and songwriter, I take that responsibility seriously. That's why I went to university and studied theology—to get grounded in God's Word and communicate it through music.”

Cadbury or Hershey's chocolate?
“Cadbury's, definitely! I have to be loyal to the chocolate of my homeland! The British recipe is much less sweet and just tastes way better. Now that I live in the States, and British Cadbury's chocolate is hard to get, I think that's also what makes it my favorite!”
