Participation in the Make It Matter Contest (the "Contest") is contingent on your full and unconditional agreement to and acceptance of these Official Rules. The Contest is sponsored by Focus on the Family, 8605 Explorer Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80920, USA ("Sponsor").
(1) Timing: The Contest begins at 12:01 a.m. Mountain Time on June 15, 2008, and ends at midnight on the Contest deadline date, September 18, 2008. All entries must be received by 11:59 p.m., September 18, 2008.
(2) Eligibility: The contest is open to all females between ages 12 and 19 inclusive; group entries are not permitted.
Employees, officers and directors of Sponsor, its affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising, promotion and fulfillment agencies and legal advisors, and the judging panel and the immediate family members and persons living in the same household of the judging panel, are not eligible to participate in the Contest. Void where prohibited by law.
(3) How to Enter: Entries should describe what the entrant is doing to “make it matter” in her community, school campus, church, or neighborhood. Each entry must be typewritten and no more than 200 words. All entries submitted by residents of the United States (50 states plus Washington, D.C.) must be sent through the U.S. Postal Service to: Brio’s Make It Matter, P.O. Box 16106, Colorado Springs, CO 80935-9809. Residents of foreign countries may submit their entries either through the postal service to this same address, or through e-mail to: prizes@briomag.com. All entries must be received by Sponsor no later than 11:59 p.m., September 18, 2008.
(4) Grants and Releases: By entering, you warrant that you are the sole creator of the entry submitted, and you agree (a) that Sponsor becomes the owner of the entry submitted pursuant to the Contest, (b) to execute any and all documents necessary to effectuate such ownership, (c) that Sponsor may reprint and otherwise use your entry in any manner, including but not limited to any publication or media of Sponsor, (d) that Sponsor may use your name and state/province/country of residence in conjunction with the use of your entry, and (e) that if your entry is judged to be a winning entry, that your full name and image may be displayed on Sponsor’s Web site as a Contest winner.
By participating in the Contest, you agree to release and hold Sponsor and its affiliated organizations harmless from any and all losses, damages, rights, claims, and actions of any kind in connection with the Contest or resulting from acceptance, possession, or use of any prize, including, without limitation, personal injuries, death, and property damage, and claims based on any libel, slander, illegal competition or trade practice, violation of rights of privacy, infringement of copyrights or other rights of third parties. Furthermore, you grant Sponsor permission to display your name on its Web site if you are selected as a Contest winner, and you consent to the full commercial use of your name, address (city and state/province/country), statements, and likeness without further compensation.
Winners must sign and return a Publicity Consent and Release Form and a Liability Release Form effectuating these same rights. Failure to timely return these Release Forms will void prize award, and prize will be awarded to an alternate winner. If the winner is under 18 years old, the winner’s parent or legal guardian must sign and return the Release Forms.
(5) Judging: Once each entry is screened for compliance with the entry requirements, it will be judged by a panel of judges ("Panel"), whose decisions are final and binding.
(6) Prizes: Ten (10) entries will be selected as finalists for the Grand Prize; from among these 10 entries, a Grand Prize winner will be selected. In addition, from among all submissions made by residents of foreign countries, one (1) entry will be selected as the winner of the international prize.
The 10 finalists will receive an autographed copy of Natalie Grant CD, a book by Natalie Grant, and other product(s) determined by Sponsor.
In addition to these products, the Grand Prize winner will receive an all-expenses-paid trip for two to a Natalie Grant concert and dinner with Natalie. The Grand Prize winner will be introduced on stage at the concert to share what she is doing to “make it matter.” The date and location of the trip shall be determined by Sponsor. If the Grand Prize Contest winner is a minor, she must be accompanied by at least one parent or legal guardian (exceptions will be made at the sole discretion of Sponsor). If the Grand Prize Contest winner is 18 or older as of the date of submission of the entry, she may bring a female guest who is 18 or older.
The international prize recipient will receive the same products awarded to each of the 10 finalists, as well as a personal phone call from Natalie Grant.
No alternative prize, cash equivalent, or other substitution is permitted except by Sponsor in the event of prize unavailability. Prizes are nontransferable. All federal, state (or province) and/or local taxes are your sole responsibility.
(7) Winner Notification: If you are selected as a winner, you will be notified by e-mail or telephone by September 30, 2008. You will have seven (7) days from notification to accept the prize by e-mail, mail, or telephone. Sponsor is not responsible for and shall not be liable for late, lost, misdirected, or unsuccessful efforts to notify you. If you cannot be contacted or fail to claim prize, if you do not comply with any term or condition of these Official Rules, or if you are ineligible, prize may be forfeited and an alternate winner selected.
(8) General Terms and Conditions: Sponsor is not responsible, and shall not be liable, for: (a) telephone, electronic, hardware or software program, network, Internet, or computer malfunctions, failures, or difficulties of any kind; (b) failed, incomplete, partial, garbled, or delayed computer transmissions; (c) any condition caused by events beyond the control of Sponsor that may cause the Contest to be disrupted or corrupted; or (d) any printing or typographical errors in any materials associated with the Contest. You agree that Sponsor’s only obligation is to submit entries from eligible Contestants to the Panel according to the procedures and criteria set forth in these Official Rules, and award the prizes set forth herein to winners, subject to the terms and conditions herein. You agree that Sponsor’s obligation is fair and adequate consideration for any entry submitted by you, and that you are not entitled to and shall not seek any further compensation.
(9) Winners’ Names: The winners will be announced in upcoming issues of Brio and Brio & Beyond magazines, and will be posted simultaneously at briomag.com.
