La Glamour — Static, French Manicures and Blonde Lashes

nailsI’m stuck with static! My hair has that flyaway look. What can I do?
To tame your tresses, try this: Switch to a moisturizing shampoo. After a complete cleansing, apply a rich conditioner to the ends of your hair (avoid the roots — you don’t want to exchange the static look for the greasy look). Be sure that your styling products such as mousse and gel are alcohol-free, too. This will help cut down on static. If that static is superstubborn, rub your brush or comb across a static-resistant dryer sheet, such as Cling Free or Bounce, before you style your hair.

My friend goes to a nail salon to get a French manicure. I love the way it looks, but can I do it myself at home?
Yes — you can give yourself a French manicure right at your kitchen table! This natural, white-tipped look is very classic and very easy to do. You can purchase Sally Hansen’s French Manicure kit or buy the needed items individually. You’ll need:

pre-cut, self-adhesive nail-painting guides
a pure white, opaque nail polish
a sheer, natural polish

To create those salon-perfect nails follow these steps.

First, prepare your nails by giving yourself a regular manicure — remove old polish, clean under your nails and file the tips into a nice oval shape.

Second, following the directions on the package, apply the white nail guides one finger at a time. The nail guides help to create the perfect edge and angle.

Third, apply the pure white polish on the tips of your nails, above the painting guide. One good coat of polish is usually enough.

Finally, when the white polish is dry, slowly remove the nail-painting guides. Apply several coats of the sheer polish on each of your nails, covering the entire nail, to finish the look!

I’m a natural redhead, but my eyelashes are really blonde. You can barely see them. What should I do?
First, let’s cover what you should NOT do. You don’t need to dye your lashes. Also, you shouldn’t wear black mascara because it’ll look too harsh. So, what to do? Try Estee Lauder’s henna-colored mascara. Henna has a slight reddish tint that blends better with red hair than other mascara colors do.

Here are a few questions that require a simple, two-letter word response.

If you don’t have zits as a teen, is it true that your skin will wrinkle sooner?
NO.

If you use a tanning bed, is it true that it can dry up your ovaries?
NO.

If you eat prunes, is it true that they will help your fingernails grow?
NO.

I get razor burn every time I shave my legs. Is this normal, or is there something I can do about it?
Make sure you create a smooth shaving surface on your legs by working up a good, soapy lather or using a shaving cream before you touch that sharp edge to your skin! You might also consider investing a few dollars into getting a razor with an aloe strip above the blade. It’ll soothe your skin as you shave. Of course, replacing your razor or the razor head every few months helps, too. Most important: Take your time. Rushing only makes more nicks, bumps and burns!
