La Glamour — Waxing, Facial Masks and Fragrances

I messed up waxing my upper lip hair and I now I have little scabs in the places where my skin got pulled off along with my lip hair. Yuck! What did I do wrong?
Ouch! Try applying baby powder to the area before applying the hot wax. This usually keeps the wax from sticking to my skin. Plus, waxing is more successful when you allow the hair to grow back before attempting to wax again -- that gives the wax more hair to adhere to. While it's growing in, use Jolene Creme Bleach to get it light-toned. Of course, the best thing to do is to go to a salon to have lip hair zipped away. They are more experienced!

Facial MaskDo you have any homemade recipes for facial masks and scrubs? If so, please share them!
I have two favorite mask recipes! This first one is a protein mask that leaves your skin feeling silky smooth. It's perfect for nourishing your skin. Here's the recipe:

Place one egg white in a bowl. Beat it with a blender until it is a stiff foam. Add 2 to 3 drops of lemon juice (a vitamin C boost). Then, using a spatula, slowly stir just once. Apply mask to your face, avoiding your eyes and lips. Wait ten minutes, then rinse off with warm water. Ah, smooth and silky!

The second one is especially good for normal to oily skin. Give it a try! Using an upright blender, turn 1/4 cup of oatmeal into a powder. Place powder into a small cup. Mix it with enough water to create a thin paste. Place it on your face, again avoiding your eyes and lips. Wait 15 minutes, then rinse off with warm water. If this feels too drying, mix with milk instead of water.

Concerning facial scrubs, I do not recommend these be homemade. Here's why: Your facial skin needs to be treated with TLC! If you were to make a scrub with ground fruit pits or nuts, the ragged edges from these ingredients would actually scratch your skin, leaving your face very red (this is what happens if you buy products with these ingredients, too). Therefore, I suggest you purchase a scrub made with tiny round beads that will effectively remove the layer of dead skin cells (this is the purpose of a scrub) without harming your delicate skin. Try Clinique 7-Day Scrub or a similar product (just read the label to get the ingredients).

I'm tired of my fragrances, and I'm looking for something new. Any suggestions?
Velocity is a brand-new scent from Mary Kay Inc. designed with teen girls in mind. It has a light, fresh, fruity scent that will "turn your world upside down" (that's what the ad claims, anyway!). Here's how you can get a sample of Velocity: go to mkvelocity.com, then click on 'consultant location,' then enter your zip code. You'll be given a phone number to an independent consultant in your area. She will love to introduce you to Velocity perfume and the entire line of Velocity products. Enjoy!

I'm 14 and 5 feet 5 and a half inches tall. The weight chart in my health class says I should weigh less than I do. How much do you think I should weigh?
Scale It would be impossible for me to say what your target weight should be. It's difficult for a weight chart to be 100 percent accurate. Weight charts cannot take into account your bone structure (small, medium or large) or your metabolism (how quickly your body burns calories).

Because girls are bombarded with images of pencil-thin models and actresses, they often think they should be skinny. That's a false perception. It is normal for a growing girl's body to put on weight.

In my opinion, there is not necessarily a right or wrong amount that you should weigh, but there is a right or wrong way you should feel! Do you have energy (real energy -- not the buzz from a double latte)? Do you concentrate well in class? Do you wake up refreshed? Or, do you catch colds easily, feel sluggish all day or collapse on the couch after dinner when you need to be doing homework? If you answer yes to these last questions, you probably need more of the health-producing foods like fruits, veggies, grains (cereals, rice, oats), yogurt and such! Healthy eating will give you a healthy body that feels great -- no matter what the scale says.
