InBox — June 2008

When reading February’s “The Outcast” story, I got a horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach and realized I’d excluded someone at school. The poor girl didn’t stand a chance. She wasn’t the cleanest, and we made fun of her for it. I hope one day she can forgive me. Thanks for printing this article. It made me realize where I went wrong.

Megan from Johnson City, Tenn.

I’m a bit of an antiques fan, so I especially loved the article on antiques from January’s issue. Great tips! I also loved the article on all the “sewaholics.” It was good to see there are more girls, like me, who enjoy sewing.

Jessica from South Africa

Didn’t like it!
I was disappointed to see “Show Off Your Church” in the February issue. We’re told in Isaiah 66:1 that no matter how great and wonderful our worship place is, it’s nothing to God. Worship isn’t defined by how your church looks but rather your relationship with God.

Elizabeth from Bennett, Colo.

Editor’s note: Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Elizabeth! We’re not trying to get readers to compare their church to God. We simply want girls to be excited about where and how they worship. We love to hear teen girls brag about their church!

I love seeing the variety of people Brio puts in the mag! But I don’t agree with the comments from letters about stick-thin or “fake” girls used in other magazines. Thin girls are a part of God’s creation, too! I was born thin, and that’s just that way I am. I don’t starve myself to look that way, just as other girls don’t force themselves to have freckles or blond hair. Just because we’re thin, doesn’t mean we’re fake.

Sarah from Silverton, Ore.

snacks Yummy stuff
Know why I loved the article “Simple Snacks” from January’s issue? I made the covered pretzels to take to a party, and they were a hit! Everyone loved them, and I’ll definitely make them again!

Abigail from Hickory, N.C.

Thanks so much for a job well done. It’s hard to be a Christian girl in today’s society, but Brio has helped me stay strong!

Bethany from Lafayette, Ore.

The year-long struggle is over, and I’ve emerged a Bible Bookworm due to joining Brio’s read-the-Bible-in-one-year plan. I encourage all my Brio sisses who haven’t yet read this Book to take the time to do it. It will be the most amazing thing you’ll ever do.

Monica from San Antonio

Yay, animals!
I loved the article “And on That Farm She Had a Llama!” from February’s issue. I’m a llama lover, too! They’re great animals to work with—even if you don’t own one. I live in Colorado, and a nice woman near us owns a huge llama farm. She lets the 4-H students work with her llamas, because people in our area can’t own a llama in the city. Again, thanks for including the llama story in Brio!

Keara from Erie, Colo.

Thanks SO MUCH for the article “I Touched Poverty, and It Changed My Life Forever,” in February’s issue. It helped me realize that poverty is a big deal. Our theme in youth group for the last two weeks has been about poverty, and Ashley’s story really helped!

I’m getting a group of my friends from school who really want to help, and we’re going to sponsor a child with Compassion International and help you adopt the village in Guatemala you talked about. We’re also praying about participating on Brio’s missions trip in ‘09 to Guatemala so we can meet our sponsored child.

Sydney from Kansas City, Mo.

From a . . . MOM?!?!
I subscribe to your magazine for my daughters, but it turns out I enjoy it as much as they do! I’m always the first to read it as soon as it arrives. It’s nice to share our thoughts and ideas. Not only does it bring us closer together, it brings us closer to God as well. Your articles are informative, interesting and fun!

Shannon from Hamilton, Mont.
