A Golden Promise

Teen GirlImagine being in Athens, Greece, this summer during the Olympic Games! You may not be able to afford the airline ticket, and you may not be an Olympic athlete, but you can still make your presence known!

This is not only the summer of the Olympics, but it’s also the 10-year anniversary of the True Love Waits campaign. Millions of teens have pledged to remain sexually pure until marriage, and this summer teens will renew their pledge — or make a brand-new first-time pledge — and send in their written commitments on True Love Waits cards to be displayed at the Olympics!

It’s BIG, and it’s REAL!
The True Love Waits movement is active in 100 countries, and since its beginnings, rates of teen sexual activity have dropped. Not surprisingly, rates of teen disease infection, births and abortions have dropped as well.

The day teens planted their True Love Waits cards in front of the Capitol was historic for the nation and the kingdom of God. That day was life-changing for one of the teen girls who planted her card.

Fifteen-year-old Jessica had just learned before leaving with her youth group for D.C. that she was pregnant. Her secret crisis stood in sharp contrast to all she was seeing that day. Twenty-five thousand teens joyfully prayed over the massive display for purity. More than 211,000 signed pledges of purity were spread across the Capitol lawn, and Jessica’s heart was deeply moved.

Surrounded by a sea of promises, she found a blank card. Jessica knew that God’s grace could cover even her immorality and resulting pregnancy. She understood that God would forgive her if she came to Him in genuine repentance.

Jessica bowed her head and sought His forgiveness. She told God that she’d protect the life of her child and that she wanted a life of purity from that day forward. With careful strokes, she signed her name to the True Love Waits card.

Today, Jessica and her husband are vibrant youth leaders in a growing church. They, and the teens they bless, stand as a testimony of grace and a God of second chances.

After the birth of her baby, Jessica admits that temptation from the past reared its ugly head. She credits the power of God, working through the concrete promise at the heart of True Love Waits, with the victory over those temptations.

True Love Waits EmblemWhat About You?
God continues to write similar stories in tens of thousands of young lives worldwide. He’d like to write His success story for purity in your life. Will you let Him?

Here’s what you can do: Make a True Love Waits commitment yourself. Realize this isn’t a haphazard pledge; it’s a sacred oath between you, God and your future husband. Sign your pledge on a card. Challenge your friends who have made promises of purity to renew their commitment with a signed card sent to the Olympic Games.
